Fan Control

The fan is controlled by four microprocessors (three slaves and a master) which essentially control the speed and timing of each blade as the fan rotates. Optical switch and encoder sensors are used for positional feedback. 24V DC motors are used to drive the blades and a stepper motor is used to rotate the fan.

Diagnostic checks are performed in the background on all the sensors in order to prevent terminal motor failure e.g. when a motor has stalled due to sensor malfunction.
